The location of these amenities was discussed at a public meeting in late 2018 (please see 'Background' below) and Parks brought the feedback received and reviewed the proposed projects with District 17 Alder Baldeh during a follow-up session in mid-February 2019. The master plan showing the locations of the shelter and asphalt walking path were brought to the Board of Park Commissioners (BPC) who approved the plan at their meeting on 3/13/2019 - materials from the public input meeting and BPC session can be found at the links, below.

The open-sided sun shelter construction project was bid in early June 2019 and the contract was awarded to contractor Madison Commercial Landscapes, Inc., who submitted the only bid received for $63,972.00.  Work began on the contract to construct the open-sided sun shelter in October 2019 and was completed in early 2020.  The asphalt walking path is part of the Parks capital budget submittal and is anticipated to be bid for construction under a separate Public Works contract in 2020 - with installation to occur later that year.

Updates on the sun shelter project and photographs when they become available will be posted to this site as they become available.  If you have questions or would like to provide comment on the project, please contact Project Manager Kate Kane at or (608) 261-9671.

Parks begins the planning effort for projects that will be bid and constructed in early-to-mid 2019 early so that the bidding and contract award process can stay on schedule.
The first meeting to discuss the project was held on 12/20/2018 at the Streets East Maintenance Facility (4602 Sycamore Ave).  Materials from that session can be found at the links, below.

The master plan describing these amenities moved forward for review and approval at the March meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners on 3/13/2019
