Calling All Volunteers! CampHERO Kicks Off Its 6th Season
posted
CampHERO, a summer camp that introduces girls to the protective services, is about to enter its sixth year! The Madison Fire Department has been a proud sponsor of CampHERO since its inception. 61 of our employees have volunteered for CampHERO, and 7 serve on the CampHERO leadership team.
Volunteers are the bedrock of CampHERO, and more volunteers are needed! You can dedicate as much time as you wish — a couple hours or a couple weeks — and there are a variety of jobs to choose from.
Visit the “Volunteer” page on the CampHERO website to learn more, and to lend a helping hand!
By being a part of CampHERO, you get to help girls develop courage, gain confidence, and build character while they gain hands-on experience taught by police officers, firefighters, EMT/Paramedics, and dispatchers. Plus you’ll work alongside a number of our own dedicated volunteers from the Madison Fire Department!
We thank all volunteers who contribute to CampHERO, including the following founding members from the MFD:
Jen Román, who organizes and oversees all aspects CampHERO
Linnea Anderson, overseeing health and safety operations for all campers and volunteers
Lisa Becher, overseeing all facilities and transportation
Bernadette Galvez, volunteer manager, headquarter manager, marketing, and school liaison
Lori Karst, organizing the “Be the Hero” benefit, fundraising, and an instructor at the camp
Patrick Tomko, providing food service and hundreds of meals to every volunteer and camper
MFD Admin Clerk Denise DeSerio also provides graphic design for the signage and CampHERO t-shirts!
